SMART interventions start!

Today, SMART’s music intervention has officially started!

The first group of recruited participants have attended the first session of the music composition/edition interventions. In this first class, teaching artists from the American Composers Orchestra have introduced themselves, as well as the planning and expected dynamics of the classes.

The group started listening to a song and commenting about aspects of it in order to introduce the students to music appreciation concepts. They then started the creation of a collaborative playlist with songs that the students identify with different moods and situations. This playlist will be revisited throughout the intervention.

Social media was present during the discussions with the students, as many of the songs were originally found or heard by the students in social media contexts (TikTok videos, Instagram reels…).

The whole SMART team, both researchers and ACO’s teaching artists, are asbolutely thrilled about the starting of the music lessons and are looking forward to get this group of students engaged in this intervention program.
