After realizing his workload and lab conditions had drastically changed from the moment of proposal submission (Fall 2021) to the present moment, the original supervisor of the SMART project communicated his will to make some kind of ammendment that would allow the MSCA fellow and main researcher of the project to have a properly involved supervisor at UCM that could oversee the advancements of the project and who could grant her the career advice and career-development support she needs in this crucial period in her career.
During several weeks of discussions, consultation and guidance (with / from the European Office at UCM, and SMART’s Project Officer at the European Commission), a plan was set to find an appropriate new supervisor at UCM that would align at the scientific level, and could also be interested in taking this role.
The SMART team found and contacted Prof. Elisa García Mingo, Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology: Methodology & Theory (UCM), active member in the Digital Culture & Social Movements Lab (UCM), and associate member of the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender (University of Brighton). Prof. García-Mingo is an expert in Gender Sociology, Sociology of Violence, Cultural Studies, Feminist Epistemology, and Methodology in Social Research, and has extensive experience studying violence and hate-related behaviors on-line.
Fortunately for us, Prof. García-Mingo happily and very kindly welcomed our proposal and agreed to participate as UCM’s new PI for the SMART project. The change of supervisor was officialy implemented (after the P.O.’s approval) on January 23rd, 2024.
We are certain, Prof. García-Mingo’s expertise will add an absolutely relevant and interesting insight from a sociological point of view in our analysis and results, and will help us communicate our project and its conclusions to a more diverse audience and range of stakeholders.
